Temperatures in the Chesterfield area are forecast to fall to -3 on Saturday (January 3), with ‘light snow’ between Friday evening and Saturday. According to BBC Weather, Chesterfield will also see a 40-hour ‘light snow showers’ spell between Sunday (January 4) and Tuesday (January 6).
Last year, when we faced a similar snowfall, many churches took the decision to close on the Sunday morning. We were asked to consider a more proactive approach for future situations, and so our advice now is to not to travel in such wintry and difficult conditions.
Given the forecast, this weather front may arrive at a similar last-minute timing as previously experienced, and so we have asked local church Stewards to have a communication plan in place with this Sunday's preachers. Some may be travelling a distance, and so it would be good if any cancellations are made as early as possible this weekend.
In the event that churches do have to close, we will update this page and social media channels.
