Alyson Franks

Alyson (Aly) is the Pastoral Worker for the Derbyshire North East Circuit.

Alyson felt called to pastoral ministry while studying at Cliff College where she gained Certificates in Pastoral Care and in Bereavement Ministry. She has also completed an Adult Mental Health First Aid course.

Alyson says that pastoral work has set her on a new direction in her life in which she continues to learning. She currently has ten hours a week allocated to her pastoral role which commenced in January 2019.

Previously, Alyson was a nurse. She trained in Sheffield for her SRN and has worked both in nursing homes and in the NHS, particularly in older care. More recently, she has worked at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield as a Parkinson's and Movement Disorder Nurse Specialist.

Alyson always wanted to be a nurse, but prior to her training she felt a particular call to York, where she studied at St John's College and gained a joint honours degree in biology and geography.... and was fortunate to meet her husband Mel there.

Alyson lives in Brimington Common with Mel who is now retired and plays an active part in the team of volunteers who maintain Central. Alyson and Mel have two sons, lovely daughters-in-law and three granddaughters.

Outside of work Alyson likes sharing time with Mel, walking, gardening, reading, and having fun with the grandchildren.
