Tom Surgay: Local lay Pastor

Local Lay Pastor

As of September 2025, Tom is employed full time by the Circuit as a Local Lay Pastor having previously worked on a part-time basis as a Young People's Pioneer.

He serves Hasland Methodist Church as well as Loundsley Green Church by helping with their various community outreach projects and offering pastoral support to their congregants.

At Hasland, this involves helping to run the Hangout on a Friday afternoon (term time only) which is aimed at secondary school aged children. The young people drop in for toast, to play board games, pool and table tennis and just to chat and relax at the end of the week. There is also the Friendship Café held on a Tuesday afternoon which gives members of the local community an opportunity to socialise over a cup of tea or coffee and a piece of cake or two. Another part of Tom’s role is to help lead Messy Church which Hasland hosts a few times a year during various school holidays.

Tom has a passion for sharing the Good News with everyone he meets and has a particular heart for introducing children to Jesus at a young age. He is able to do this through coordinating and helping to run Family Church a fairly new Circuit venture based at Loundsley Green Church. It aims to encourage families to explore faith and experience the love of Christ together in a fun, active and creative environment.

Currently, Tom is On-Trial as a Local Preacher and regularly leads worship across the Circuit. He hopes to have completed the course and become fully accredited as a Local Preacher by the end of 2026.

Tom lives in Hucknall, Nottingham with his wife Louise, their two young sons Ethan and Caleb, and their dog Jasper.

Away from work, Tom enjoys spending time with his family and taking Jasper on long walks in the countryside. As well as this he is a big fan of sport, particularly football and motorsport. He supports Notts County and was a season ticket holder at Meadow Lane but doesn't get to many games these days due to other commitments.
